PREGNANCY AT 5th MONTH

You're into the fifth month of your pregnancy. During this month you will start to feel better and the motherchild bond will begin to materialize. The state of skin and hair will be better. You will look great. The major event of the 5th month is baby’s kicking. The child’s presence is no longer felt by just mum, but by all the family!

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH YOUR BABY

  • The fetus continues to develop at an amazing pace. The internal organs are formed and continue to mature.
  • The senses, particularly sight, develop a lot during the 5th month of pregnancy
  • The pads of the fingers and toes are forming.
  • Your baby is also developing his or her finger prints.
  • Your baby is also forming permanent teeth buds behind the baby teeth that are already formed.
  • The facial features continue to develop this month. The eyelashes and eyebrows are beginning to grow.
  • The baby’s gender is now visible on the ultrasound.
  • A baby girl will also begin to develop primitive eggs in her ovaries.
  • Your baby’s movements may be more apparent. Loud noises may even cause your baby to startle. It’s still pretty unusual for you to be able to feel your baby move at this point unless this is not your first pregnancy. You may be aware of sleep wake cycles in your little one.
  • The child length is 25cm and weight is approximately 340gm.

WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH YOU

  • Fetal Development at 5th Month The skin of your belly is stretching, tightening and itching.
  • Varicose veins or spider veins are fine marks that usually appear on the lower legs
  • You may experience occasional discomfort in your inner thighs, hips and lower abdomen called round ligament pain.
  • Pregnancy hormones are responsible for almost all uncomfortable things. It also contributes to the lower back pain that you are experiencing. With your growing belly your back is feeling the strain as well. Lower back pain occurs in almost fifty percent of pregnant women.
  • Pregnancy brings about changes in your metabolism.
  • The nipples may start to produce transparent liquid – foremilk. Wipe it with a napkin. Don’t try to extrude it.

Garbhini lakshana – 5th month

  • woman becomes Krusha due to lack of nourishment of maternal dhatus.

SIGN AND SYMPTOMS

  • Frequent urination
  • Tender and/or swollen breasts
  • Fatigue
  • Changes in skin and hair.
  • Dizziness or lightheaded feeling
  • Bleeding gums
  • Gas, heartburn and/or constipation
  • Excess mucus and saliva
  • Headaches
  • Mild shortness of breath
  • Increase in normal vaginal discharge

Your Diet & herbs supplements– 5th month

  • Make sure you keep well hydrated: drink at least 2 litre of water per day. Both you and your baby need fluids. Water plays an important role in the prevention of bladder infections, which are very common in pregnancy.
  • You might be affected by constipation during the 5th month of pregnancy. If this is the case, eat foods that are high in fiber (fruit, vegetables, cereals, etc.)
  • Eat food that is mild, easy to digest and maintain regular meal timings. It is better to avoid spicy foods, sexual intercourse, heavy exercises, fall or trauma, weight loss programmes, negative feelings, difficult postures like balancing on one leg or squatting and exposure to unhappy or violent events.

Pathya – 5th month

  • Rice gruel
  • Ghrita prepared with butter extracted from milk
  • Milk with ghee should be consumed. (Charaka Sarirsthan)

Herbs supplements– 5th month
High time for brain tonics such as Medhya Rasayana

  • Brahmi (Gotukola)
  • Shankhpushpi

Tip of the month

  • Don’t strain the back.
  • Wear proper footwear
  • Learn to lift things the right way – knees bending
  • It is better to sleep on the hard mattress.
  • Try not to keep your hands up for a long time.
  • Don’t spend a lot of time in the sun
  • It is better to avoid sexual intercourse, heavy exercises, fall or trauma, weight loss programs, negative feelings, difficult postures like balancing on one leg or squatting and exposure to unhappy or violent events.
